Wu Yuan Jian (悟源涧) is one of the famous San Keng Liang Jian (三坑两涧), the three grottoes and two streams. “涧” is stream, “悟源” means to be aware of our origin. There are two huge mountains, with a small stream gently flowing beneath them. At the foot of the mountains, there is a small cluster of tea trees known as Ban Tian Yao (半天妖). From the video, you can see the wind blowing through the peaks, continuously brings the energy accumulated between them to these tea trees.
Ban Tian Yao is one of the most renowned tea varieties in Wuyi mountain. It is said that the first mother tree grew on the hillside of San Hua Feng (三花峰), so this tea is also called “半天鹞”. 鹞 is the name of a kind of bird. Later, the mother tree was transplanted to Wu Yuan Jian. As the unique aroma of this tea is so special, it is also known as "妖 Yao" tea which means "Demon" tea, thus earning the name "半天妖".
These original Ban Tian Yao trees have been taken care of by Ah Wei since 2011, he allows the trees to grow freely without any fertilizers, enabling them to absorb the nutritions and energy only from the mountains and stream. This is why this tea is so powerful!
We got to know Ah Wei when a friend brought me the this tea in 2016. We were so surprised when we drank it for the first time. We had never imagined that cliff tea could be made to this level. At that time, a friend of mine didn’t sleep for three days after drinking only one cup of this tea, as if it had given her endless energy.
Because the production of this tea is so limited every year and there are too many people looking for it, it is not sold on the open market now. As our first connection with Ah Wei is due to this tea, considering this, he finally agreed to share a small amount of this tea with us. Therefore, this 8 gm is packed by ourselves from these tins.
